Track Homework

Overview

Completing assignments is vital to students mastering objectives.
Tracking when a student completes an assignment, whether in class or for homework, is a great asset to teachers and administrators.

Follow the steps in this guide to create – and follow through on – consistent homework policies using LiveSchool.

Create a Homework Policy

Before customizing your LiveSchool site, there are a few questions you should answer as a leadership team. At your next leadership meeting, decide:

  1. When will homework be checked?
  2. When is an assignment considered on time? Incomplete? Late?
  3. How many days does a student have to make up homework?
  4. Do you give points for complete homework? Or just take away points for incomplete homework?

Once you have established your policies, you should write them up in a basic document or email and present to your staff.

Add To Your Rubric

Let's customize your LiveSchool site to track your homework policy. First, click Menu and select Site.

Next, choose Edit Your Behavior Rubric

Click on the New Category button

Name the category Homework.

Click the New Behavior button underneath the Homework category.

Ee recommend you get specific about the type of homework you are tracking when you create the behavior buttons, like:

  1. ELA Homework
  2. Math Homework
  3. Social Studies Homework
  4. Science Homework

This will make your data even more specific!

Record Homework

When a student does not complete a homework assignment, teachers and administrators should track this on the behavior rubric.

In points, select the student(s) and click Continue

Click a Homework Behavior.

Add an optional comment explaining the missing homework.

View Homework
View Missing Homework

Now that teachers track homework, you will have data for your homework policies. You can run detentions, reward students for completing their homework and remind students to turn in their work! Here are some ways you can use that data in the moment and over time!

In points mode you can quickly filter your buttons to see who is missing homework that day or week.

Click the button indicated below, which will say Today's Points, This Week's Points, or Custom Filters.

Choose Custom from the drop down menu.

Under the sorting options follow these steps:

  1. Click the All Behaviors drop down
  2. Click the unselect button
  3. Choose Incomplete Homework
  4. Save

These two students are missing homework today.

If you want to check missing homework from the week, under Recorded, toggle to “This Week.”

All these students are missing homework for this week.

Undo a Missing Homework Mark

If a student brings in their homework, and you want to undo an “incomplete homework” point for them, you can do that in LiveSchool!

In points mode, choose the student and click View & Undo Points.

In View Points, you can delete an incomplete homework beahvior by clicking the blue X.

Communicate To Parents

Homework will be tracked on weekly reports so parents can see when and what class a student missed homework.

On a student’s weekly report, any behavior that was recorded for that student that week will be listed under the behavior history.

Keep them involved and informed by printing paychecks weekly! Learn how here
